Hey guys! Peyton here.
Welcome back to the third Writer’s Blog, special thanks to Hades for writing that… rant. Today, I’m discussing some crazy events that have happened because of the slate and how this site functions.
So… Batfold 5 is done.Read the rest of this entry
OriMario 2, by me, has released! Return to Rapids Middle and watch Joe Marinet kind of just do stuff
Read it here, RIGHT HERE, HERE IT IS, HERE IS THE TRAGEDY OF JOE MARTINET, OKAY??? ARE YOU HAPPY NOW, FATHER?
Please be nice when critiquing!
Hey gamers! This is a follow up to my last post, The Site is Being Archived!… What Does That Mean? – An Update, which you can read with the click of the link. Anyways! Updates, people, updates!
First, any misconceptions? Well, a few. Certain members of the community who have been struggling to get their stories done say that me and Peyton don’t need these stories. And quite frankly… we do. To keep things lightly, most of the council is inactive with the community. The site is practically led by Peyton and I, and we’ve invested enough hours into this site that we can call it ours. And to see these projects not getting done is upsetting because all it does is imply a delay. And what’s a delay do? Take away from me and Peyton’s personal life.
I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again, me and Peyton are real people. We’ve both been through some serious stuff in our lives, and I won’t speak for Peyton but he can vouch if he chooses, having to handle not only our own workload but everyone elses… it only adds to a feeling of depression and exhaustion.
THAT’S WHY WE NEED UPDATES, PEOPLE! UPDATES! IT’S YOUR JOB AS WRITERS, EVEN COUNCIL MEMBERS, TO KEEP US IN THE KNOW!! God, I can’t stress this enough. Keep us in the know, guys, it makes our jobs so much easier.
Onto the cuts that have been made, we have cut The Strange Origin of Origami Yoda by JC, Fold of the Rings by Jawa, Multiversus by OM53, and Annashred 2: Fatherless Behavior by SF Hades. Jar Jar Pleats had not made any cuts.
Now onto some lighter news, guys.
Last month, we had 29 stories in various stages of completion, right? Well, aside from a few universes we only have one or two stories left in each universe. So, I figured we’re at a spot where we can do a full dissection.
Video Pleats has five stories that require posting. One of them, OriMario 2, is unposted. The other four are by OM53, Jar Jar, and Noah. In between then and now, one story has been released, MegaPleat. Jar Jar Pleats needs to finish Donkey Crease 2.
The PJOU has one story left, by me. In between then and now, three stories have been released, The Lost Casefiles, Pleaty Jackson 3, and O-Reyna-Gami.
The DCOU has eight stories left, We currently have two that are unreleased. The others six are by Jar Jar Pleats, SF Hades, and SF Peyton. Jar Jar Pleats needs to finish The BatPen.
The Wizarding Folds OU has two stories left, belonging to Jar Jar and Guillermo. Jar Jar Pleats needs to finish The Creasely Twins and the Ori-Maruauder’s Map.
Revisited has two stories left, both by Jawa, both outlined.
Jar Jar Pleats needs to finish Spider-Fold: The Swing of Things.
The Origami Universe has four stories finished, that’s one more than last month, and it’s by Guillermo. The remaining stories are by me and Peyton.
I’m so tired. We have got to finish this site.
So, today is a big day because not only do you guys get THE LOST CASE FILES: 15 SHORT STORIES OF ATHENS, NEW YORK, but TWO mainline stories!
First we have Pleaty Jackson 3: The Cicada Daze of Summer, the last in the trilogy. After a stressful school year, Mac Astley just wants to enjoy a summer with his friends. Unfortunately, Charles Emily has other plans…
Next we have O-Reyna-Gami, a spin-off of PJ3, where, after the opening of the Athens-Carter Institute we see Sebastian Merrick struggle to move on from his many, many, traumas.
Give these three a read!
Now I’m gonna go work on Chronos II: The Odyssey lol
Hey all, Jawa here. Long time no see, right?
Anyway, I’ve been hard at work on my final stories for the site, Bag and Crink(le) Strike Back, and The Tragic Fall of Anakin Skyfolder, both for Origami Yoda: Revisited.
This post concerns the latter of the two, and some research I was doing for it. The prologue takes place at the second Fun Night from the very first book, and so I was planning on including the flyer for it in my story. This is where the shocking discoveries occurred. Before I explain, here is the Fun Night flyer:
At first glance, you may just think that it seems like any ordinary middle school event flyer…until you read the date of Friday, May 4th.
I thought that this could just be a reference to Star Wars Day, however I wanted to see if May the 4th really fell on a Friday in 2010.
It did not.
So I decided to find the closest years in proximity of 2010 that had May 4th on a Friday, and those happened to be 2007 and 2012. Considering that 2012 was in the future, I decided to go with 2007.
The first date of May 4th lined up with the book, so next I had to test the date of the first Fun Night, which was on Friday, April 6th. Turns out, it matches up as well. So at this point I was pretty sure that the first book takes place in Spring of 2007, however there was one more thing that I needed to check.
The most pivotal part of the original book is the McQuarrie gang learning about The Twist by Chubby Checker. The song came out in 1960, so that obviously is not an issue. What I needed to check is how Harvey mentions that he knows the song. He says that he recognizes it because it appears on the soundtrack for Spider-Man 3, which released in 2007, so I needed to find the actual day it released to make sure that it still lined up with everything else.
Spider-Man 3 was released on May 4th, 2007. The exact same day as the second Fun Night. At first I thought this threw the theory out the window, as Harvey couldn’t have seen the film beforehand to know about the song. But then I realized that the soundtrack actually came out on May 1st, 2007, three days before the Fun Night. We can also assume that the track listings were posted online before this point, so there is pretty much enough evidence to confirm that Harvey could’ve known about The Twist after all.
So if we’re going off the dates from the flyers, The Strange Case of Origami Yoda takes place from April 6th, 2007 through May 4th, 2007. That’s just 29 days!
It makes sense that the book lines up with these dates in real life as well, since Tom most likely wrote the book or at the very least came up with the idea for Origami Yoda around 2007, given that Qwikpick and Stonewall Hinkleman were published in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
As for the rest of the series, we know they came out from 2011-2014. Even though it took five years total for the series to be completed, in universe the entire saga actually takes place just over the course of one year! The first book starts in the McQuarrie gang’s sixth grade spring semester, and Pickletine ends in their seventh grade spring semester. So the series canonically takes place from April 2007 through May 2008.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!
Technically, there are two issues with this theory: In the series, The Grand Inquistor and “Robo-Legs” Maul are both mentioned. This couldn’t be possible, since both characters were created after 2008, when the story supposedly ends.
Turns out the 2012 dates also match up with both Fun Nights, so technically the series could take place from 2012-2013, allowing for both characters to be mentioned canonically. This would also make Harvey around six or seven years old when Spider-Man 3 was released to theaters. My first memory of a film was the fourth Indiana Jones, which I saw when I was seven, so there is reason to believe that Harvey could have the same memory but with Spider-Man instead.
I think both theories are acceptable, but as I’m writing this, I find the 2012 dates to be more believable, as the only problem is that the book was published two years before that. But if we’re talking strictly in universe, I think it makes more sense. In the end, this is just a rant about a fictional middle-grade book series, and you can choose which dates you think are correct.
Also if the story took place in 2012-2013, the McQuarrie gang would be my age, having been born around 2000-2001, as opposed to 1995-1996 if we go with the 2007 dates. As I grew up with the series, personally I find it more fun to pick the later dates, but going by publication date it could very well be 2007. One last fun fact before I go is that right now the McQuarrie gang would either be 20-21 or 26-27, depending on the dates. Pretty interesting, at least for me.
Anyway, that’s all I have for you today. I hope you all enjoyed my little rant, and I look forward to you guys reading my final stories as well as everyone else’s when they come out before The Archive.
May the folds be with you, always.
Addendum from the desk of SF Noah, supporting the 2012-2013 theory:
1. At the beginning of Princess Labelmaker, Sara is wearing a shirt with the Doctor Who logo on it. It could just be that she is a nerd and knows about Doctor Who for some reason, but placing it around 2013 makes much more sense as the Doctor Who 50th was airing at year, meaning it was at a worldwide peak in popularity. Sara likely became a fan around that time, explaining why she never wore the shirt before then.
2. At the end of the Pickletine in the ‘where are they now’ section, The Skateboarding Brat is wearing a t-shirt with Chopper from Rebels on it. Rebels first aired in 2014 but the characters were revealed in 2013, so it’s likely that the Brat saw Chopper and liked him so much that he made the shirt according to the T-shirt directions in Art2-D2.
Hey guys! So, I’ve been in the process of writing BatFold Five, which I have actually secretly known the title to since the original inspiration had released in 2020. Yeah! Midst of Covid, the original idea had started formulating.
So… at first, I was going to wait and write it once all the other Batfold-related stories were completed (BatPen, The Kane High Sirens story, etcetera), but I’ve been getting increasingly stressed about not finishing the site in time. So, I kind of just went “okay, time to get this stuff done.”Read the rest of this entry
Thrawn got all his stuff done, it’s his will and testament, containing outlines to The Serapis Saga Finale, Art Trek 3:, A New Generation, The Foust Chronicles: The Caesar Shadow, and MCP Saga: Part II. Gonna miss him, check it in BTFolds.
So long, partner, uh, uh, quote, I guess. From Thrawn.
People don’t think the universe be like it be, but it do -SF Thrawn
And he was so right for that.
Hey guys! It’s been about three months since we announced the archiving of the site. I decided that to keep this efficient I’ll be keeping you all in the know of how things are going.
First, I’d like to clear up some misinformation I’ve seen being spread around as well as emphazing some points that seem to have fallen on deaf ears.
One. After March 31st, NO new stories will be added to the slate. If we find something lost in our drive, because hey, all of the council has done it at some point, that’s a different story. But if you message me or Peyton about the possibility of adding a new story onto the already stressful workload we will not allow it.
Two. Contrary to popular belief, the site is not ending solely because of “The Council getting too old.” That is an oversimplification. The entire council has been college aged for the last couple of years, save for me. The general consensus being that I was a brought on as a new young face. The main reason is much more simple, there’s really no stories left to tell. We did Star Wars, we did Marvel, we did Video Games, we did Percy Jackson and we even did Harry Potter. There’s simply nothing truly worth doing with the site, and when we can be focusing on other sites and writing without the limitations of puppet fictions, this site becomes more of a detriment than anything.
Now, onto some lighter news.
When we started the archiving initiative there were, give or take, 50 stories on our list scattered across various universe, but now we have 29! If you want to get more statistical, that’s four in the VGOU, two in the PJOU, eight in the DCOU, two in the WFOU, three in Revisted, one in the MOU, one in Fold of the Rings (HOW) and seven in the OU. What led us here, you ask?
Well, you guys! You all have been hard at work trying to get your stories done and I’d like to take a special moment to appreciate OM53 for staying on the grind. However, there’s also been some major cancellations. For example, Thrawn’s departure from the community means that the four stories left on his slate are all cancelled. However, his stories’ outlines will be posted beneath the BTFolds page. While I highly reccomend you find an alternative, this can be used as a last resort if you feel there is something preventing you from writing a story within our time constraints. Note: This is the exception, not the rule.
Also, another cancellation, the Origami Universe. No, not the entire universe, but the final story, has been removed from our backlog. The story was unnecessary given the nature of the other stories being written, and it was a bit too complicated to make a reality. I know this may come as a disappoint to some of you but we truly do believe that with the way Shredder Squad 3 ends, it’s just not needed.
It’s crazy to think that both the PJOU and the VGOU have a chance of ending next month. Both serieses that I am completely invested in.
Love y’all, happy pride month, I’m out!
Hey guys. So, I figured we needed more stories about the X-Men. I went through my e-mail and found Origami Quicksilver, it’s under MOU Fold 4. I wrote it a year ago. I like to think that since then I’ve changed as a person, and I would like to sincerely apologize.
Hey Guys! I’m so excited to, for the voice of Origami Master 53, post about VGOU Fold 3’s kickstart!
I wrote Mega Pleat, and to keep you guys with some content flow, I asked Origami Master if I could post the story ASAP. So… without further ado:
Doug Corlett has had this puppet for a while now… but he hasn’t gotten to use it. This makes him really sad, and he’s decided to go on a rampage because of it. Can anyone stop the Mega Pleat from completing his levels? Or will he beat the game, and his old friends up, in the process?
Find out here: Mega Pleat
